A journey of a thousand miles
begins with the first step.

While that makes perfect sense, there is one other thing that must be accomplished before taking that fateful step... proper planning. Attempting to design a complex Web site without proper planning would be akin to driving from Florida to Colorado. You know you must travel in a westerly direction to arrive at your destination, but the intricate details are unknown.

Planning is a fundamental part of any journey, and it's a fundamental part of any Web design project. Creating a comprehensive plan of the project will simplify the process of creating a complex Web site, and like a road map, planning will help to keep us on track as we make that journey of a thousand miles.

Before we fire up the software and start cranking out Web pages, we take a step back from the process, and ask what you're aiming at by designing this Web site.

You would be surprised how many people want to build a Web site, but have no clear goals as to what they want the site to accomplish. A Web site is about communication, plain and simple. You could say that the goal of your Web site is to obtain more business, that's what most business sites are designed to do. However, you may also want an element of the site devoted to pure and free information. A Web site can have more than one goal, but it's important to define them before we start.

If you don't have any clearly defined goals for your site, how are you going to be able to tell if you're website is successfully complete? Without a good, well-defined set of goals, how are you ever going to know if you've arrived? If you don't know or understand the ultimate goals of your site, then don't move forward until you can define them.

When we design a Web site for a client, we want to get to know the people that will be visiting the site. Once we have a handle on the demographics of your audience, we can design the site around those parameters. It is important to understand your target audience.
